Spend a week or two, or just a long weekend, in a 2BR, 1.5 bath container home outfitted with high-end appliances and organic bedding and soaps. Two queen beds, a queen sofa sleeper, and a bunked single accommodate up to 7. Spend your meals around a kitchen island or outside on an upper deck, main-floor patio, or around a fire pit.
Get refreshed on a mile of walking trails and relax in chairs situated along the way. Unwind in a 4-person electric sauna. Watch beautiful sunsets and sunrises from an 8-person hot tub overlooking the Flambeau River.

Honoring land and body
Why "Maison Flambeau"?
The word flambeau is French for torch. French voyageurs and fur traders arriving at the river you see during your stay here were struck by an unforgettable sight: after sunset; dozens of glowing birchbark torches drifting silently across the water.
It was the Ojibwe people searching for walleye. A torch mounted near the bow of a canoe illuminated the clear water while also calming the fish. We chose the name Maison Flambeau—House of the Torch—to honor that history, and also the French heritage of part of our own family.
Talking to the trees
What does the land want? Once we asked that question, the answer was: this stairway winding down toward the river, preserving the existing canopy, allowing the forest to remain the primary architect. The home you stay in here feels less like it sits on the land than within it.
We've retired the acres from decades of hunting. Now, deer, turkeys, gray wolves, foxes, black bears, porcupines, racoons, bald eagles, trumpeter swans, songbirds, and countless others pass through the property as they always have—except now, they can simply be wild.
Local and organic
You’ll find here products that are gentle on body and land wherever possible: organic, locally made, refillable, and designed to reduce unnecessary chemicals and plastics. Our organic sheets, towels, blankets, and duvet covers come from Quince. The kitchen, bath, and laundry feature plant-based products from Common Good, Blueland, Intelligent Nutrients (Minnesota), and Modern Roots (Minnesota), with wool dryer balls instead of fabric softeners and little to no synthetic fragrance throughout the home.
In the kitchen, you'll find organic, mold- and mycotoxin-tested Purity Coffee, PFAS-conscious cookware selected for induction cooking, Epicurean cutting boards made in Superior, Wisconsin, professionally sharpened knives from Eversharp in Edina, and food-safe silicone utensils.
